Annual rodeo ready to buck July 27-28

For two days at the Corwin Les Schwab Arena, area cowboys and cowgirls will compete during the annual Northwest Professional Rodeo Association Jefferson County Rodeo July 27-28 starting at 6 p.m. each night.
   As part of the NPRA, the Jefferson County Rodeo features bareback riding, steer wrestling, breakaway roping, tie-down roping, team roping, cow milking, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing and bull riding.
   Wild horse racing will kick off the rodeo, and midway through the rodeo,Wild Donkey Races will surely entertain with two-person teams competing.
   Rodeo livestock is provided by B Bar D Rodeo Inc, and last year's rodeo paid contestants just under $17,000.
   Last year's winners were Brett Hale (tie-down), Andy Weldon (steer wrestling), Melody Hale (breakaway roping), Vickie Westwood (barrel racing), Chase Skidgel (bull riding), Wyatt Bloom (bareback riding) and Travis Whitlow and Tyler Whitlow teamed to win team roping.
   Current NPRA event leaders include Bloom (bareback riding), Shane Falon (barrel racing), Alexis Doutre (breakaway roping), Cole Allen (bull riding), Shane Erickson (cow milking and tie-down roping), Charlie Barker (saddle bronc riding), B.J. Taruscio (steer wrestling), Jason Minor (team roping header) and Jake Minor (team roping heeler).
   Stanfield's Jodi Goodrich is the current leader in the women's all-around standings with 218 points, while Erickson leads the men with 449 points.
   The NPRA is the Western United States' largest regional rodeo organization. It annually sanctions over 40 rodeos throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and California.
