Walkers win Shriner's raffle
Madras Marine owners Gary and Janet Walker were the winners of this year's Central Oregon Shrine Club's raffle for $500.
The winning ticket was drawn July 26, by Fair-Rodeo Queen Jessie Foster following the fair talent show.
"After 28 years of buying tickets, I have been happy to support the Shriners Hospital for all these years," Gary Walker said as he accepted the cash.
The raffle, an annual benefit for Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, raised $4,500 this year, according to Madras Shriner Larry Easter.
Shriners Hospital provides free medical care to children under the age of 21 for orthopedic and plastic surgery needs.
Currently, 28 children from Jefferson County are under care at the hospital.
The Shriners are looking for children who might need help with things like club foot, curvature of the spine, chronically dislocated hips, or more serious diseases such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, or muscular dystrophy.
To apply for care at Shriners Hospital, parents can get in touch with a local Shriner, call Easter at 541-475-2957, or call the hospital at 503-241-5090.
