July slightly cooler than usual

August weather to be "normal"
July may have seemed warm, but according to preliminary data from the National Weather Service in Pendleton, temperatures at Madras averaged slightly colder than normal during the month.
   The average temperature was 65.5 degrees, which was 0.5 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 84.9 degrees, which was 0.4 degrees below normal. The highest was 96 degrees on July 9.
   Low temperatures averaged 46.0 degrees, which was 0.6 degrees below normal. The lowest was 34 degrees on July 4.
   On seven days, the temperature exceeded 90 degrees.
   Precipitation totaled 0.17 inches during July, which was 0.37 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation -- at least 0.01 inch -- was received on two days, with the heaviest, 0.12 inches reported on the 15th.
   This year, precipitation has reached 7.15 inches, which is 0.93 inches above normal. Since October, the water-year precipitation at Madras has been 8.83 inches, which is 0.87 inches below normal.
   The outlook for August from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center calls for near normal temperatures and near to below normal precipitation.
   Normal highs for Madras during August are 84.7 degrees and normal lows are 45.4 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.34 inches.
