All friends and relatives of Madras residents Howard and DeLoris Naegeli are invited to help them celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary at a party hosted by their children at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, at 863 N.W. Claypool St., in Prineville. Cake and ice cream will be served.
Howard Naegeli married DeLoris Vickroy on Aug. 20, 1949, in Mount Angel. The Naegelis had a commercial greenhouse in Union, then cut trees to build their own log cabin while living in Meacham, where they raised their family.
Howard Naegeli was a Boy Scout leader for many years when his children were growing up. DeLoris Naegeli was a homemaker, and enjoyed making quilts and doing oil painting.
The Naegelis moved to Madras in 1995, after Howard Naegeli retired from a 38-year career as an agent for the Union Pacific Railroad.
Both became been familiar faces in Madras, volunteering at the schools as readers, doing family mentoring, and delivering senior meals. For years, they also drove people to doctor's appointments anywhere in the state, often spending the night and taking the people to dinner and breakfast out of their own pocket.
The Naegelis have seven children, Sherrie Emery of Prineville, Helen Hoffman of Hillsboro, Larry Naegeli of Prineville, the late Gary Naegeli who passed away in 2002, Dale Naegeli of Salem, Richard Naegeli of Lebanon, and Alan Naegeli of Madras; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
