r 9,500 customers of Pacific Power were without electricity the evening of Aug. 5, following a lightning storm that passed through the area.
"It was caused by a lightning strike on our transmission line that feeds the area," said Bob Gravely, spokesman for Pacific Power. "It affected 9,508 customers in and around Madras."
The outage, which started at 8:32 p.m., was in a transmission line that affected four substations: Crooked River Ranch, Culver, Madras and Cherry Lane, north of Madras.
"We had storm damage pretty much from Medford to Klamath Falls and up through Central Oregon," Gravely said, noting that in other areas, damage was primarily from tree limbs falling on power lines.
Pacific Power restored power to about 4,270 customers at 9:36 p.m., but at 10:57, those customers and some additional customers in Warm Springs lost power.
Power was fully restored to the four substations at 12:58 a.m. Aug. 6.
