Wreck claims local man

Early morning accident
Former Madras resident Damien Philip Plazola, 25, of Redmond, died in an early morning accident, Sunday, on U.S. Highway 26.
Oregon State Police is continuing the investigation into the cause of the single-vehicle fatal traffic crash along Highway 26 about six miles west of Madras.
According to Sgt. Keith Taylor, on Sept. 9, at approximately 2 a.m., a 1988 Toyota Corolla two-door driven by Plazola, was westbound on U.S. 26 near milepost 111, when it traveled off the highway.
Plazola overcorrected in an attempt to return to the roadway and rolled several times across the road before his vehicle came to rest on its wheels off the highway.
Plazola was not using safety restraints. He was ejected from the car and pronounced deceased at the scene.
OSP troopers from Bend and Madras offices responded to investigate. Alcohol is a possible contributing factor. Trooper Jake Lorentz is the lead investigator.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services, Jefferson County medical examiner and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
