Fair board needs members
There will be a special Jefferson County Fair Board meeting Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. at the Jefferson County Commission Meeting Room, 66 S.E. D St., Madras.
One of the items on the agenda is to review and discuss the need for fair board members. With the recent resignation of board President Andee Simmons, the board has dwindled to two members. Anyone interested in applying to be on the board should note the following:
ù A written letter of interest needs to be sent to the Jefferson County commissioners by Sept. 14. Applications will be reviewed Sept. 26 at the board of commissioners meeting.
ù Interested applicants may contact Jeff Rasmussen, county administrative officer, or a county commissioner at 541-475-2449, a fair board member, or Sandy Forman, Jefferson County fair coordinator, at 541-325-5050, for a description of board member responsibilities.
ù Fair board meeting dates will be established once new board members are in place.
Anyone interested in possibly applying is invited to attend the meeting to ask questions or just observe.
"The `Free Fair' was an exciting event and the planning for the 2013 fair is right around the corner," noted Forman.
She added that the reorganization of the county's buildings and grounds department has given the fairgrounds a new facelift and will require less hands-on work from fair board members in the future.
"The existing fair board members and staff are happy and excited to keep positive things going," noted Forman. "Please spread the word to those who might be interested in being involved in your public facility."
