Bells ring in Constitution's 225th anniversary

   A community bell ringing, organized by the Juniper Butte Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, celebrated Constitution Week Monday in front of the Jefferson County Library.
   An educational display about the U.S. Constitution is also on display inside the library this week.
   Madras Mayor Melanie Widmer signed a proclamation at the Aug. 28, City Council meeting, declaring Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week in Madras.
   The proclamation notes that Sept. 17, 2012, marks the 225th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution.
   "I ask our citizens to reaffirm the ideals that the framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained," the proclamation reads.
