>Pearson to retire Sept. 28
The search for a new economic development manager for Jefferson County continues, as officials prepare to interview four candidates next week.
Wayne Pearson, who has served in that position since it was created in November 2008, will retire on Sept. 28.
According to Roger Lee, executive director of Economic Development for Central Oregon, which will hire the local manager, Mid Oregon Personnel has been handling the recruitment process, and has found "good, qualified candidates." He declined to release the candidates' names or cities.
"There is a panel of local leaders representing city-county that will be part of the selection panel," said Lee, noting that the salary range for the position will be $45,000 to $55,000.
Candidates need to live in Jefferson County, or be willing to move to the county. "We don't want someone living in Bend or Redmond," he said. "If they don't live here, they'll have to jump right into getting to know it."
Pearson has been working on an unmanned aerial vehicle initiative, and on "a number of other initiatives and projects, some of which are confidential," Lee said.
"There are certainly some exciting things happening in Jefferson County," said Lee, who expects the new manager to be selected the first week of October, and on the job as early as the end of the month.
