The Madras varsity water polo teams split matches with Bend on Thursday, with the boys falling in a close 11-9 contest, and the girls pulling away from Bend late to win, 15-6.

In the girls match, Brianna Hunt led the way with five goals, two of which came in the fourth quarter, and Aurora Gerhardt also scored five.
After Bend tied the match at 5-5 with 2 minutes, 10 seconds left in the second quarter, the Buffs went on a 10-1 scoring rampage to end the match, led by Hunt and Gerhardt.
The Madras girls allowed just one goal in the entire second half.
The boys match went down to the wire, with Madras trying to cling to a one-goal lead in the fourth after Tony Holliday scored his only goal, but a pair of Bend goals near the end of the final frame lifted the Lava Bears to victory.
Jordan Gemelas scored three times for the Buffs to lead the attack and Brady Tucker scored twice.
