ew Pizza Hut franchise is preparing to open its doors in Madras by the end of November.
From its freshly updated location at the north end of the Bi-Mart shopping center, the new restaurant will exclusively feature delivery and carryout menu items.
The world's largest Pizza Hut franchisee, NPC International Inc., based in Pittsburg, Kan., is in the process of having the 1,400-square-foot space -- formerly Pelican Shoes -- completely remodeled.
As part of the remodel, the building will have a new ceiling, tile flooring, new exhaust hoods, air-conditioning, and wall coverings, according to Bob Kralicek, director of real estate for NPC International.
"It will look all shiny and new," he said.
The restaurant will be accessible to handicapped customers, and have a couple seats in the lobby area, where customers can watch a flat screen, which will let customers follow the stages of their orders.
Kralicek anticipates that the store will employ about 20 people. "We are accepting applications at http://jobs.pizzahut.com/," he said.
Blas Guerra, regional general manager for Pizza Hut, said the Madras Pizza Hut will open with a brand new design, featuring bold, energetic graphics on both the interior and exterior of the building.
"We're excited to open our doors and begin serving customers in Madras and nearby communities all of their favorites from Pizza Hut," he said.
NPC International operates about 1,200 Pizza Huts in 28 states. Kralicek said they own the Pizza Hut in Prineville, and opened one in The Dalles earlier this year.
Depending on local markets, he has seen a shift away from dine-in facilities. "I guess people are busier now," said Kralicek. "There's more delivery and carryout now."
Before selecting Madras as the site for the business, he said the company looked at the number of households, demographics and the specific location, which is on a major highway and has the anchor store (Bi-Mart) to draw people in.
Besides a wide variety of pizzas, the Pizza Hut menu will include favorites such as baked Tuscani pastas, and made-to-order WingStreet chicken wings that are hand-tossed in signature sauces, such as Buffalo Burnin' Hot, Garlic Parmesan, and Honey BBQ.
Customers can place their orders over the phone, in the store, online at Pizzahut.com, or through the use of an iPhone, a text message, mobile Web or on Facebook.
