Around 25 volunteers turned out to help paint the Madras Kids Club's game room on Oct. 13, as part of the "I Heart Central Oregon" effort.
Charitie Gamble, one of the local project organizers, said regionwide on that day, over 10,000 volunteers helped with community projects.
At the Kids Club, paint brightened the dark upstairs game room, which houses pool tables, and air hockey game, TV and other recreational games.
The painters worked from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as did volunteers at all other Central Oregon projects, Gamble said.
The Kids Club was chosen because it serves the youth of Jefferson County and sees an average of 156 youths a day.
Elsewhere, Jon Farrester led a group that went door-to-door collecting canned food donations, and some money donations, for the Jefferson County Food Bank, LINC networking agency, Madras Gospel Mission, and Pregnancy Center. Clothing was also collected for LINC.
The Pregnancy Resource Center organized its own yard cleanup effort, while another bunch of volunteers did a cleanup of the grounds at Jefferson County Middle School.
The event is designed to meet the practical needs of a city and its people through painting, cleaning and beautificaiton, food drives and more.
