Youth wrestlers dominate
Little Bulldogs shine at home tournamentAt the 10-team Culver Invitational, the Culver Mat Club cleaned house.
The youth wrestling event was the first of the season for the young Bulldogs, and produced 11 meet champions for the home team.
The Novice division, for wrestlers ages 10-11, was the best division for Culver in terms of championships won with four.
Jordan VanAlstyne won a championship at 80 pounds while Victor Torres won the 120-pound class.
Kody Zemke (130) and Cylus Hoke (140) also won titles in the Novice division for Culver.
Culver had three champs in the Intermediate division, ages 8-9. Dawson Richter won the 55-pound class while Anthony Hood took home the gold at 70 pounds.
Isaiah Toomey won the 87-pound class to round out the champs in that division for Culver.
In the Schoolboy division, for ages 12-13, Lorenzo Vasquez won at 80 pounds and Jorge Olivera won the title at 105 pounds.
Brandt Downing won the 145-pound championship in the Cadet division and Colton McVay, all 45 pounds of him, won the class in the PeeWee division.
The Mat Club will be back in action this Saturday at Redmond High School.
