Opportunities for giving, holiday events
Sounds and Tastes of Christmas: Following the parade Saturday, come enjoy music and the story of Christmas, and bring a treat to share at 7 p.m., Dec. 1, at the Madras Christian Church, 115 S.E. C St., Madras, across from Sahalee Park.
   Sharing Tree in Culver: The Sharing Tree at Culver Market has name tags of needy residents. Pick a name, buy a gift and return it wrapped by Dec. 19. Food basket applications are available at city hall. Call 541-546-4502 for details.
   Farm Workers Toy Drive: Donations to the annual toy drive to provide Christmas gifts to the children of farm workers, organized by Jesse Rodriguez of Madras, can be made to the Farm Workers Toy Drive account at Columbia State Bank in Madras.
   Bell choir performs: The Madras United Methodist Church Hand Bell Choir will present a Christmas concert at 2 p.m., Dec. 16, 49 N.E. 12th St. Freewill donation for the food bag ministry.
   Metolius tree, Santa: Metolius will hold its tree lighting at 6 p.m., Dec. 5, at city hall. Santa's Workshop will be from 11 a.m to 2 p.m., Dec. 8, for kids and families.
   Ashley manor collecting toys: Ashley Manor on Oak and 16th streets in Madras, is holding a Toy Drive For Hope to help out needy families in local communities at Christmas.

   Light show at KOA: A "Keep Our Athletics Lights Spectacular" at the Central Oregon KOA RV Park at 2435 S.W. Jericho Lane in Culver, is inviting businesses to decorate a free space with lights. For a donation of $5 and two cans of food, spectators can drive through the light show from 6-9 p.m., Dec. 14-24, with proceeds benefiting Madras and Culver high schools sports programs and the Jefferson County Food Bank.
