CORBETT - The Cardinals survived a series of first-half turnovers to shutout Valley Catholic 30-0 on Friday, earning a spot in the 3A state playoffs.

Valley Catholic was on the move, looking for the tying score after recovering a fumble midway through the second quarter. But facing 4th-and-2 from inside Corbett's 30-yard line, the Valiants basically opened their playbook and showed the Cardinals what was coming.

As the players lined up to run the key play, coaches along the Corbett sideline shouted at the defense to go after No. 6 - that is halfback Liam Walsh. Sure enough, Valley Catholic handed him the ball and he mustered all of two steps before Corbett's Isaac Noles smacked into him for a 2-yard loss ...
