Winterhawks end trip with third straight victory
KELOWNA, British Columbia - The Portland Winterhawks finished their nine-game trip Saturday with their second victory in two nights over the Kelowna Rockets.
Sven Bartschi had three assists, Derrick Pouliot scored two goals and Mac Carruth stopped 30 shots in the 3-1 win.
Portland's next games will be at the Rose Garden at 7 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday, both versus the Spokane Chiefs.
Ty Rattie gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead over Kelowna with a goal just 38 seconds into the game. It was his 15th goal of the season for the Hawks (11-7-1-1).
Kelowna evened the score at 3:12 of the opening period.
Defenseman Pouliot scored on a power play with 14 seconds left in the second frame to put the Hawks on top 2-1.
In the third period, it was Pouliot again, deflecting a Rattie shot into the net at the 5:21 mark.
The Hawks were 3 for 3 on the penalty kill, as Kelowna fell to 5-10-1-1.
The Winterhawks finished their trip with a 5-3-0-1 record, winning the last three games.
