Currin picks up a hat trick in Bruins first-round win

6A GIRLS SOCCER - Barlow beats Sprague 5-0, advances to face Lakeridge on Tuesday
by: David Ball Barlow's Katie Austinson turns upfield during the Bruins 5-0 playoff win over Sprague on Saturday night.

The Barlow girls soccer team went unchallenged in the first round of the OSAA 6A playoffs Saturday night with a 5-0 shutout over visiting Sprague.

Brittney Currin led the charge with a hat trick, getting all three of her goals off free kicks. She went top shelf on her first two goals, and put a one-hopper past the keeper from about 40 yards out for her final goal midway through the second half.

The #7 Bruins seemed to be on a collision course to meet league rival Central Catholic in a second-round clash of top-10 teams, but instead will face a Lakeridge squad that upset the Rams 1-0. Barlow will host that match at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
