A Portland police robot broke through the window of a Northeast 66th Avenue home Sunday afternoon to check the house after shots were reportedly fired inside early in the day.

Police said late Sunday afternoon that a man inside the house apparently died from a self-inflicted wound. His name has not been released.

Officers responded to the house in the 3200 block of Northeast 66th Avenue at about 11:03 a.m. when gunshots were reported.

The police bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team also responded to the incident. Officers and SERT members waited outside for hours before sending the robot to check the dwelling.

Traffic was blocked for several hours to vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians on Sandy Boulevard from 64th to 68th avenues and several area streets as police investigated the incident.

No other information has been released.
