Cardinals get down early to Westside

BOYS SOCCER - Corbett falls 4-1 in first round of the 3A playoffs

LAKE OSWEGO - Westside Christian peppered the Corbett goal with an endless series of shots Tuesday afternoon and came away with a 4-1 win in the first round of the OSAA 3A boys soccer playoffs.

The host Eagles went on the attack from the opening whistle, forcing Corbett goalie Seth Payton to make a series of saves, including one diving stop at the post. Before long, Westside knocked one through when District 1 Player of the Year Johnny Hanscom put in a strike from 15 yards out.

The Eagles nearly added to the lead when David Harris fired a ball toward the edge of the goal, but Sandy defender Jeffrey Hendrickson blocked the shot with his legs and cleared it out of danger. Harris struck again moments later with a high ball down the middle, but Payton came up with another acrobatic save to limit Westside's lead to 1-0 at the half....
