Football:

Lewis and Clark's undefeated status came to an end with a 57-28 home loss to Willamette last week - but the Pioneers can claim a share of the Northwest Conference title with a victory at Linfield on Saturday (1 p.m. kickoff). L and C (7-1, 4-1 NWC) could get the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division-III playoffs with a win. Linfield is 8-1, 5-0, and is averaging 41.0 points per game while allowing 11.4. The Wildcats beat Willamette 20-10 Oct. 1 at Salem.

Western Oregon (6-4, 6-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) plays at Humboldt State (8-1, 6-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the winner taking the GNAC title.

Men's basketball:

University of Portland freshman David Carr's fastbreak layup with 0.7 seconds left in overtime gave the Pilots a 99-97 exhibition victory over Concordia last week. Carr had 14 points. UP plays in the Alaska Airlines Arena tournament at Washington this weekend, facing Georgia State at 2:30 p.m. Sunday and the Huskies at 7 p.m. Monday. … Portland State's home opener is 7 p.m. Tuesday against Seattle, and the Vikings open the season at 6:30 p.m. PT Friday at Denver. In last week's 91-82 exhibition win over visiting Western Oregon, transfer Michael Harthun scored 21 points. … Whitworth, Whitman and Lewis and Clark are 1-2-3 in the NWC preseason coaches poll. Whitworth is seeking its third straight conference crown.

Women's basketball:

PSU opens at Stott Center at 7 p.m. Friday against UC Irvine. The Vikings also play host to UC Santa Barbara at 2 p.m. Sunday. Allison Greene, a 5-9 freshman guard from Southridge High, hit 9 of 10 field-goal attempts and scored 17 of her game-high 21 pints in the second half of an 85-69 exhibition win over visiting Central Washington last week. … Portland opens at Chiles Center against Montana State at 6 p.m. Friday and then welcomes UC Irvine at 2 p.m. Sunday. UP senior Natalie Day had 22 points in an 80-36 exhibition triumph over visiting Concordia.

Women's soccer:

The NCAA playoffs begin this weekend, and Portland (9-9-1) will play at Oregon State (13-5-2, third in the Pac-12) at 7 p.m. Friday. The winner will face Florida State, one of four No. 1 seeds in the 64-team field, or Samford next week. UP sophomore forward Micaela Capelle made the all-West Coast Conference team. … Portland State's season ended at 8-7-3 with a loss on penalty kicks, 4-3, after playing Weber State to a 0-0 tie in the Big Sky semifinals last week at Greeley, Colo. PSU fell to 1-6-2 all-time in the conference tourney. … Concordia (14-4-1, seventh in the NAIA) will play host to Northwest for the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament crown at 7 p.m. Saturday, with an automatic berth in the national playoffs on the line.

Men's soccer:

Portland takes a six-match unbeaten string into the final week of the regular season. UP will meet San Francisco at 7 p.m. Friday and Santa Clara at 1 p.m. Sunday, both at Merlo Field. The Pilots (10-6-2, 5-4-1) entered the week in a four-way tie for second in the tightly bunched WCC. Saint Mary's was on top at 5-3-2. Santa Clara, San Diego and Loyola Marymount also were 5-4-1, and USC was 4-5-1. … Concordia (15-1-1, tied for ninth nationally) will play host to Corban at 4 p.m. Saturday for the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament title and automatic bid to the NAIA championships.

Volleyball:

Portland State (10-4 Big Sky) lost a showdown at conference leader Northern Colorado (10-3) last weekend but came back to down Northern Arizona. Eastern Washington (9-5) is third in the league. The top four finishers qualify for the Big Sky tourney Nov. 25-26 at Stott Center. PSU is at non-league Seattle tonight and visits EWU on Saturday. The finale is Nov. 19 at home against Sac State (7-5).

Cross-country:

The Concordia men and women took second in the Cascade Collegiate Conference championships last week at Ashland. Concordia's Gina Paletta and Lauren Morgan placed third and fourth, respectively, in the women's race. The Cavaliers, as hosts, will run in the NAIA meet Monday at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site (10:30 a.m. men, 11:45 a.m. women).
