Aloha will host its first tree lighting
The community is invited to 'Aloha's First Christmas Tree Celebration' Saturday, Nov. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Aloha Bales Thriftway, 17675 S.W. Farmington Road.
The tree lighting will happen at 7 p.m.
There will be live music by Aloha High School's Advanced Choir and local artist Chris Marshall, a substitute teacher in the Beaverton School District.
Santa Claus will also make an appearance, said organizer Jeff Eddy, known to many in the community for his involvement with the Aloha Van that promotes local events. 'The big man himself is coming in on a fire truck,' said Eddy.
'Bales Thriftway has donated all the cookies and cocoa you can consume,' said Eddy, adding that other goodies donated by local businesses will be given away throughout the evening.
Although the event is free, donations of two canned food items are requested, to benefit Living Hope, a local food closet.
Supporters of the Aloha Van 'decided that this year they wanted to go bigger, and they wanted to do a Portland-style Christmas tree lighting,' said Eddy.
'It will be a very large party,' he said. 'And it will be an annual thing, but this is the very first.'
