AMITY - In a West Valley League regular season football finale, the Horizon Christian Hawks (7-2, 5-1 league) defeated the host Amity Warriors (3-6, 2-4 league) by a score of 38-16.

Amity took an 8-0 lead at the 6:35 mark of the first quarter when sophomore linebacker Randy Williams stepped in front of a screen pass for Amity's second pic and ran it back five yards for the score. (This was only the second time this season that Horizon didn't score first in a contest.)

The Hawks came back immediately following the Amity score, driving 62 yards in eight plays with Taylor Grimmett scoring on a 9-yard pass from junior quarterback Wyatt Houston.

In the second quarter, the Hawks scored three times using a combination of big play offense and defense to take a 28-8 halftime lead.

The first score of the period quarter was setup by a 58-yard pass play to senior Cameron Eggers who scampered down the left sideline but was dragged down at the 2-yard line. Junior Zack Selland scored on a 1-yard pass from Houston a few plays later.

The next Horizon score came on the defensive side of the ball on the next Amity possession. Grimmett got a hand on a short pass towards the flat, tipping it up in the air. Selland swooped in, grabbed the ball, and returned it 23 yards for a TD. On Horizon's next possession, Houston hit senior Jordan Pearson over the middle on a third down and 12 play, and Pearson turned it into a 67-yard touchdown by cutting back, evading a few tacklers and pulling away from the Amity defensive backs.

In the third quarter, the Hawks added to their lead with Selland's third touchdown of the contest on a 19-yard pass from Houston. The Hawks final score came on a 31-yard field goal by Grimmett with 1:08 left in the game. Houston ended up with four passing touchdowns for the game after throwing the early interceptions.

Next up for the Hawks is a first round playoff game this Friday night at Horizon against the Coquille Red Devils. Coquille (6-3 overall, 3-0 league) comes in as the league champ of the 3A portion of the 3A-2A Sunset Hybrid. The Red Devils have won 5 of their last 6 games with the only loss in that stretch coming to undefeated 2A Gold Beach by a 28-19 margin. Game time will be Friday night at 7 p.m. at Horizon Christian.
