Affiliated Computer Services says it will employ up to 900 workers by 2012

TIGARD - After announcing in August that it would hire more than 300 workers at its Tigard call center, Affiliated Computer Services announced last week that it will add an additional 250 jobs over the coming months, making the tech support company the single largest employer in Tigard.

For years the Tigard-Tualatin School District has been the city's main employer, employing 724 employees in Tigard in 2011, but in a statement released by ACS last week, the company said it expects to employ about 900 people by 2012.

The new hires come on top of the 375 people ACS hired three months ago.

The Dallas-based outsourcing company handles technical support and customer service calls for consumer electronics and technology companies.

The company's Tigard call center is located in the former Farmers Insurance building between Highway 217 and Interstate 5.

In a statement, ACS said that the Tigard facility was expanding its current operations and would soon begin providing customer support service for an unidentified 'globally recognized online travel company.'

The company has had a hiring boom over the last few years, hiring 350 new employees last October when it moved from its Tualatin location to Tigard. The new building brought double the available space for employees, said Bill McKee, Xerox spokesman.

Xerox paid $6.4 billion to purchase ACS in 2009.

ACS has about 150 call centers around the world. ACS and Xerox employ about 3,500 people in Oregon, mostly in the Portland area. Xerox also has a manufacturing operation in Wilsonville.

Applicants can apply online at or in person at 13333 S.W. 68th Parkway in Tigard.
