Martha Lucille Martsolf

March 16, 1926 - Nov. 9, 2011

Longtime Gresham resident Martha Lucille Martsolf died Wendesday, Nov. 9, at an area care center. She was 85.

Private family services have been held.

Martha was born March 16, 1926, in Point Cedar, Ark., to Robert Franklin and Mary Ellen Martin. She was raised in Arkansas, where she began her education. Martha had to leave school before she graduated, but obtained her General Education Diploma as an adult in 1965.

She married Melvin Martsolf in Portland in the early 1950s. They moved to Gresham, but divorced in the early 1960s.

Martha worked as head cook for several businesses in the area, most notably, Tad's Chicken 'N Dumplins in Troutdale. She was also the head cook at Meadowland Dairy before retiring in the mid-1980s.

She was an avid gardener, known for her prowess with indoor plants and particularly, orchids. Martha also enjoyed reading.

Survivors include her daughters, Dixie London of Scappoose, and Donna Morris of Gresham; sons, Rex Martsolf of Gresham, and Alex Martsolf of Sandy; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jacqueline 'Jackie' E. Howe

July 16, 1939 - Nov. 9, 2011

Sandy resident Jacqueline 'Jackie' E. Howe died Wednesday, Nov. 9, of cancer. She was 72.

No services were held.

Jackie was born July 16, 1939, in Edna, Kan., to Evelyn and Billy Mercer. She moved with her family to Troutdale in the early 1940s, where she attended Fairview Grade School. Jackie moved to Springfield, Ore., as a teenager and graduated from Springfield High School in 1957.

She married Danny Fuller in 1960 in Gresham. They were divorced in 1969.

Jackie married William 'Butch' A. Howe on June 20, 1977, in Reno, Nev. They lived in Gresham before moving to Sandy in 1975.

Throughout the course of her life, Jackie worked at the former Oregon Candy Farm, Albertsons, the Resort at the Mountain in Welches, Mt. Video and Just-in Video. She was a volunteer at the Sandy Community Action Center for 28 years and enjoyed crocheting and cooking for her family.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Lori Alley and Carla Pursel, both of Sandy; sister, Judy Bloom of Eugene; brother, Billy Mercer of Springfield; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
