Businessman honored with award
Steve Wiege of Damascus Communications was recently named the 2011 IEC National Member of the Year, during the 54th annual Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) National Convention and Electric Expo in Louisville, Ky.
Wiege has been a member of the IEC of Oregon for nearly a decade and served on several committees, including the chapter's board of directors. He is also a past chapter president and member of the apprenticeship and government affairs committee. Wiege was national president in 2009. He continues to serve on the national board of directors as the west regional director.
The IEC National Member of the Year Award is presented annually to an individual IEC contractor who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the IEC, electrical industry and their community as a whole.

Holiday hours for local liquor stores
The Oregon Liquor Control Commission has given area liquor stores the choice to be open Thanksgiving Day or remain closed for the holiday.
Two local spirits purveyors will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24: Gresham East, 2414 S.E. Burnside Road; and Gresham Troutdale, 3030 N.E. Hogan Drive.

West Columbia Gorge Chamber hosts luncheon
The West Columbia Gorge Chamber will kick off its first in a monthly series of business information events at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Troutdale Comfort Inn and Suites, 477 N.W. Phoenix Drive.
November's topic is 'Live Near Work,' and introduces the chamber's new program to help employers reduce absenteeism among their employees. Keynote speaker will be Lesli Bauder, certified trainer for the National Association of Realtors. Bauder's presentation will provide tips on ways employers can offer the program to their workers without adding to company expense.
The event is sponsored by Troutdale KeyBank, RE/MAX equity group, Riverview Community Bank and the Comfort Inn and Suites. Cost is $15 per person.
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24-25.
