Bell tower rises in Oregon City
Historic Midwest bell for use in a new local chapel
On Monday, Nov. 21, F and F Structures, Inc., general contractor for the Abernethy Center hoisted the 30-foot bell tower onto Abernethy Chapel.
Abernethy Chapel is located at 1326 John Adams St., Oregon City, at the corner of 14th and John Adams streets.
The bell tower weighs approximately 10,000 pounds; including the 36-inch, 420-pound, cast-iron church bell purchased from a Michigan company and shipped to Oregon City for use in the chapel. The historic bell came from a Midwest church.
Mark Foley, president of F and F Structures said, 'Using an authentic bell from 1887 shows not only our commitment to reuse but also to history. We feel it is one more way to fit into the historic McLoughlin neighborhood.'
It will be used by future brides and grooms following their marriage.
