Jean passed away Aug. 15, 2013, surrounded by family.

Kathryn “Jean” (Kraxberger) Karl was born in Albany July 19, 1920.

Jean was married to Walter L. Kraxberger Dec. 27, 1941 until his death July 20, 1974.by: SUBMITTED - Kathryn 'Jean' Karl

Together they raised four children in Canby: Linda Huserik (husband Dennis) of Bend, Bill Kraxberger (wife Pamela) of Woodburn, Stephen Kraxberger (wife Rose Marie) of Beavercreek, and John Kraxberger of Temecula, Calif.

Jean has 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She has four living siblings: Bernice Fisher of Canby, Betty “BJ” Williams of Canby, Al Hall of Phoenix, Ariz., and Maxine Sturza of Phoenix, Ariz.

Jean was married to Eugene W. Reed from 1983 until his death in 1995. She married Chuck Karl in 2009 and they lived in Woodburn and Wilsonville. Jean moved to Bend in 2012 to be near her daughter and lived at Bend Villa Retirement Center.

Jean was the daughter of Floyd E. Hall and Esther M. Hall, owners of the Canby Herald from 1937-1948.

Jean graduated from Canby Union High School in 1938.

During her life she taught special needs children for the state of Oregon’s pilot program called the “Child Training Center” in Oregon City.

In later years, she was a “house mom” for several fraternities at Oregon State University.

Burial will be in Willamette National Cemetery with the father of her children.

A memorial gathering will be at Canby United Methodist Church, 1520 N. Holly St., on Oct. 19 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
