Donald Raymond Tonagel, 86, of Troutdale, died Aug. 18, 2013.
Born Nov. 9, 1928 in LaPort, Ind., to Cecil and Ruby Tonagel, Don was raised in Ainsworth, Ind., and graduated from Merrillville High School in 1946. He served in the USMC and fought in World War II until he was honorably discharged in 1948.
He co-owned an auto garage shop when he met Rosalie and they were married Sept. 22, 1951. They lived in Crown Point, Ind., Syracuse, N.Y., and Racine, Wis., before settling in the Pacific Northwest in 1960.
Don was a fluid power engineer until he retired in 1997. He was a lifetime member if the Mount Hood Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the Woodburn Christian Church.
Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosalie; son Dale (Linda) of Monmouth; daughter Dar (Steve) of Fairview; sister Carole (Dale) Cobble of Hobart, Ind.; grandchildren Brandi (Don) Taylor of Monmouth, Josh Muma of Gresham, Jessica (Jeremy) Fitzgerald of Canaan, Maine, Jeremy (Rachel) Muma of Gresham, Joanna (Michael) Gunderson of Corvallis; and five great-grandchildren: Kristin, Kyle and Kolby Taylor, and Julia and Joshua Fitzgerald.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 at Woodburn Christian Church, 126 Workman Drive, Woodburn.
