Kathryn Huitt Rosendahl
May 10, 1950- November 12, 2011
Kathryn Huitt Rosendahl was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on May 10, 1950 to Frances (Abernethy) Huitt and Dr. John Dempsey Huitt. Kathryn passed peacefully to everlasting life on November 12, 2011 at home surrounded by family after her struggle with a rare cancer disease.
When Kathryn was four years old, her family moved to Oahu, Hawaii. She was the oldest of five children and grew up as a "Kailua Girl", where she graduated from Kailua High School in 1968. Kathryn then attended Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972.
Kathryn reflected the warmth and beauty of the Islands in her daily life. She was known for her warm smile and honesty. She shied away from being the center of attention, but by her very presence people were naturally drawn to her. She was generous, kind and gracious and was full of love and happiness. Kathryn placed others before herself and had joyous, spiritual values to always do what was right to help others.
Kathryn had a wonderful gift for hospitality and was comfortable planning events and preparing elegant dinners for friends, accented with understated quality and grace with her decorations, flowers, and music. She loved to travel extensively and preferred tropical, warm weather, water views and sandy beaches, where her favorite destinations were Hawaii (Kailua, Oahu and Kona) and Positano, Italy.
Every day, Kathryn lived her passion and remained active, starting with hard workouts at Trainer's Club in Lake Oswego or a long walk with friends. She was also a member of the Multnomah Athletic Club and Waverley Country Club. Early on, she enjoyed swimming, playing tennis, fly-fishing in Central Oregon and New Zealand, participated in two Hood-to-Coast relays and competed in eleven marathons.
Kathryn enjoyed a career in real estate, most recently as an agent with Realty Trust Group in Lake Oswego and, prior to that as a general contractor where she designed and built high quality homes. She was talented and hard working and her success came from her perspective, thoughtfulness and fairness toward others.
She was very active in the communities in which she raised her family, including Eastmoreland, West Linn and Lake Oswego. Kathryn supported and volunteered for many organizations including Friends of the Children, Parry Center, Our Lady of the Lake Parish and School, Jesuit High School, Junior League, as well as her children's many athletic programs, such as West Linn Soccer.
A loving wife, caring mother and a special friend to many, Kathryn is survived by her husband, Tom; son, Matt DeBellis; daughter, Kate DeBellis; step-children, Hillary, Emily and Grant; mother, Frances Abernethy Huitt; sister, Mary Lou Hoffman (Richard), brothers, John Jr. (Heather), Bob (Gail) and Philip (Terri); and eighteen nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Lake Oswego. A reception will follow at Waverley Country Club.
