Nearby home saved
Portland firefighters stopped a garage fire from spreading to a nearby home early Friday morning.
Firefighters responded to reports of a garage on fire at 422 N.E. 28th Ave. around 12:39 a.m. When they arrived, the firefighters from Portland Fire Station 13 in the Lloyd Center area found a detached garage on fire. It was so close the adjacent home that the eaves of the home were starting to catch fire as crews arrived.
"Our goal was to stop this fire from spreading to the house," said Portland Fire Lieutenant Erica Nelson.
Neighbors told firefighters that they thought the house was occupied, so firefighters quickly searched the home to see if anyone was inside. Firefighters found no one home at the time, but did observe possible signs of transient use of the house and garage.
Firefighters worked aggressively to extinguish the fire and save the adjacent home. Due to their work, the home was spared from significant damage. The fire was quickly brought under control.
Fire investigators are on scene working to determine what started the fire. No fire cause or damage estimates are available at this time.
