Rattie's four goals, Winterhawks' fast start bury Swift Current
A five-goal, first-period outburst and a huge night by Ty Rattie ignited the Portland Winterhawks to their seventh consecutive home victory Sunday night.
The Hawks led 5-1 after one period, scoring twice in the final 1:44, and went on to beat Swift Current 6-2 before an announced crowd of 2,976 at Memorial Coliseum.
Rattie scored both goals as the Hawks took a 2-0 lead after 9:48. He also scored at 19:41 of the period and gave Portland a 6-2 lead at 9:36 of the third period with his fourth goal of the game and 27th tally of the season.
The Hawks led 3-0 after Nic Petan scored at 12:45 of the opening frame. Swift Current scored on a power play at 17:28, but Joe Morrow scored for Portland with the man advantage at 18:18, and Rattie struck at 19:41.
Rattie also had an assist.
Mac Carruth, Portland's goaltender, stopped 40 of 42 shots. Backup Brendan Burke made one save in playing the final 1:23.
