The Woodburn girls soccer team started the season on Thursday with a 2-1 road victory over the McNary Celtics.

The Bulldogs (1-0) beat the Celtics 5-1 in last year’s home opener and with Thursday’s win, the Bulldogs were able to break a four-game streak of losses dating back to the end of the 2012 season.

Woodburn was scheduled to host North Salem on Tuesday, followed by a trip to Roosevelt High School on Thursday.

The Huskies opened the fall season on the road Thursday night with a 2-1 victory over the Tillamook Cheesemakers on the coast.

The victory was the first under new head coach Cody Hagler, who took over the girls soccer program after former-coach Manuel Martinez had to step down from the position due to a scheduling conflict with his job.

The Huskies (1-0) were scheduled to host Banks on Tuesday, followed by a Thursday-night home contest against Cottage Grove.

The Cougars were scheduled to open the season at Santiam Christian on Monday. The team’s home-opener is Thursday against Creswell, followed by a game against Jefferson on Monday.
