Help Fill A Bag for the needy
The Fill A Bag campaign is off and running and so far the results have been abundant. We are on the road to reach our goal of 300,000 pounds of food.
For people who are not familiar with the Fill A Bag campaign, it is sponsored by a group of businesses, service groups and individuals including but not limited to: Riverview Community Bank, Gresham Ford, The Outlook, Classique Floors, West Columbia Gorge Rotary and the Gresham Rotary. These organizations have a passion for helping out our struggling East County neighbors and friends.
This is the second year of the Fill A Bag campaign after an extremely successful first year. Last year, the community raised nearly 200,000 pounds of food, which led us to set a goal of 300,000 pounds for this year. The more food we collect, the more people will be helped - and the better this community will be for all of us.
As we all know, the past few years have been demanding times for our nation, state, county and, most importantly, our community. No organization has been hit harder than SnowCap Community Charities, which has seen the number of people it helps go from 4,000 families a month to nearly 10,000 families a month. With the need swelling, the only way to keep up is for our community to step up and contribute more help to our neighbors.
I am pleased to say that we live in a community that, when called upon to give, answers with great generosity. I am today asking for more people to step up and answer the call to contribute more of themselves to help our neighbors through this challenging time.
Currently, SnowCap can buy 20 pounds of food at the Oregon Food Bank for $1, which means that a $20 donation to SnowCap will equal 400 pounds of food. Another great way to give is to go to Riverview Community Bank (Wood Village or Gateway branches), Gresham Ford, The Outlook, Classique Floors, Troutdale General Store, Advance Care Chiropractic and Celebrate Me Home and drop off bags of food at the SnowCap barrel. There are also many other places collecting food for the Fill A Bag Campaign, so please feel free to call me, Casey Ryan (Riverview Community Bank), at 503-867-6610, or Bess Will (Gresham Ford), at 503-665-0102 to find other participating locations.
I thank you all in advance for answering the call to make our community better!
Troutdale resident Casey Ryan is a branch manager and vice president for Riverview Community Bank.
