PORTLAND - The Grant boys basketball team picked up some fortunate bounces down the stretch Friday night to open the season with a 66-64 win over Barlow.

After holding a double-digit lead before halftime, the visiting Bruins found themselves trailing midway through the fourth quarter. Barlow senior Derek Saling brought the team even at 60-60 when he went unchallenged from half-court and swished a 10-footer from the middle of the lane.

With the clock winding down to the final minutes, Grant slowed the tempo and put together several deliberate possessions.

The focus seemed to pay off when Tay Arigbon drove the baseline and rose toward the hoop, but Saling spoiled his plans by ripping the ball away just as he left his feet....
