Wondering what to give your child's classroom teacher this year for the holidays?
The West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation is asking parents to skip the Starbucks gift card or cliche Christmas ornaments and honor your teacher with a donation made in his or her name.
The Honor Our Teacher campaign is in its second year, and foundation board president Kathryn Whittaker said, 'It truly is the gift that keeps giving.'
The proceeds will be given to the school district to pay for teacher salaries in the 2012-2013 school year.
'We heard from many teachers from emails and letters that they really appreciated this gift,' said Whittaker, speaking about last year's successful campaign. 'It really helped them.'
In total, including other fundraising efforts, the WL-WV Education Foundation raised $150,000 last year.
Donations are due before Dec. 14. If donations are made on time, teachers will receive a letter stating that donations have been made in their honor, along with a certificate that they could hang in their classrooms.
Parents can visit the website at www.wlwfoundation.org to make a donation. The site has a comprehensive list of all the teachers and staff that can be honored with a donation.
Additionally, the site includes a place to inform the foundation if a donor's workplace will contribute a matching donation. After a donation is made online, the donor has the option of spreading the word about the gift by emailing a few friends about it.
If parents prefer, they can also fill out a flier at turn it in at the school office or mail it to the foundation at WLWV Education Foundation, 1980 Willamette Falls Dr. #120-117, West Linn, OR 97068.
