Groom and doom for the Eagles

BOYS BASKETBALL-Jacob Groom scores 21 as Sandy routs Eagles
by: Kris Anderson Jacob Groom led Sandy with 21 points and three assists. He was 4-of-6 from both two-point and three-point range during Sandy's 85-63 win over Hood River Valley.

It quickly became clear that Jacob Groom was going to have a good game. The junior point guard had five points in the opening two minutes and finished the first half with 16 points.

Behind Groom's spot-on shooting, Sandy built a 12-point lead at halftime and continued to runaway after the break en route to an 85-63 win over Hood River Valley in the opening round of the Sandy Tournament last Friday.

During the Pioneers' 16-6 run to start the game, Groom accounted for 10 of those points, including a pair of three's. He was on point throughout the first half, but with the game in hand, Sandy sat its starters for much of the second half.

Groom was 4-of-6 (.670) from both two and three-point range and finished with 21 points to lead the Pioneers.
