Sandy senior hosts benefit for children's hospital
From 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, a Sandy High School senior will host a holiday fundraiser for the Legacy Emanuel Randall Children's Hospital in the high school commons, 17100 S.E. Bluff Road, Sandy.
Susan Rodriguez, the event organizer, said the afternoon will include games, an art table, a photo booth with Santa, present wrapping and a raffle for Christmas baskets. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
Oregon Trail Primary Academy starts 2012-13 enrollment Jan. 3
Oregon Trail Primary Academy, the Oregon Trail School District's free public charter school, will open for 2012-13 enrollment Jan. 3.
The school will accept applications for 27 kindergarten spots and several spots for next year's new sixth-grade class through March 1, said James Milliken, the academy director.
According to the enrollment application process, students already enrolled in the school are expected to submit a confirmation of continued enrollment form.
If the applications for a class exceed the class capacity of 27 students, the school will conduct a random public lottery March 16 for spots in the class.

Primary Academy's Green Science Club competes for grant
After applying for a $5,000 Pepsi Refresh grant contest, Oregon Trail Primary Academy was selected for a voting round that will determine the grant recipient.
If the academy wins the grant, its Green Science Club will:
• Build four 10-by-10-foot garden bed boxes filled with dirt.
• Set up rain collection barrels at several downspouts around the school.
• Purchase supplies and tools for its garden.
• Host a garden party to celebrate the Green Science Club's first garden.
