Its concert, food drive season for schools

Hear choir music, cheer students collecting cans for the needy

Holiday music concerts are as plentiful as the toys in Santa's pack this time of year. Here's a selection listed on calendars in local school districts:

A holiday band concert is set for today, Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Forest Grove High School, 1401 Nichols Lane.

The Neil Armstrong Middle School choir will perform Thursday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria, 1777 Mountain View Lane, Forest Grove.

On Friday, Dec. 16, the Neil Armstrong cadet choir will sing during Zoo Lights at the Oregon Zoo. That performance is from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. at the zoo, 4001 SW Canyon Road, Portland.

On the canned food drive side of things, Banks Junior High School has announced the winners of class competitions to collect the most nonperishables for needy families.

Doug Allan's class collected 63 cans; Heather Canapary's class, 54 cans; Karla Clark's class, 69 cans; Lori Martin's class, 8 cans; Jacob Pence's class, 28 cans; and Molly Lewis' class, which collected 42 cans.

The competition ended Dec. 13, and food will be distributed this week.
