BEAVERTON - The annual Paul Bergen Junior International Championship is well known for bringing together some of the best young swimmers from around the world.

But at this year's Bergen Junior International meet - held Friday through Sunday at Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center - there was a distinctly local flavor to the event as well.

Athletes from the Tualatin Hills Thunderbolts notched 27 top-10 finishes in individual events, with Prudence Rooker notching five and Michelle Cefal getting three more in girls competition, while Gabe Rooker added five of his own, Cameron Stitt four and Jonathan Zoucha three on the boys side.

The Paul Bergen International is the only meet of its kind in the United States, bringing together swimmers ages 18 and under from around the world. Since its inception in 1999, this competition has included swimmers from the United States, Canada, France, Germany and Mexico, many of whom have achieved World and/or Olympic championships.
