Scappoose nearly comes back against Roughriders, then blisters R.A. Long the next night
The Scappoose Indians played two good home basketball games back-to-back last week, almost winning one and running away with the other.
Tuesday, Scappoose fell behind Roosevelt in the first half, but came back to make a game of it in the second half. The team trailed 38-26 by halftime of the contest, but cut six points off the difference in the third quarter, only to fall by five in the end, 65-60.
Blake Updike and Zach Smith led all scorers in the contest with 22 and 21, respectively. Each canned three treys in the game.
It looked like it would be another close game the next night as the Indians hosted R.A. Long. Scappoose was down by four at the half 34-30, but it wouldn't stay close for long.
During the third period and first two minutes of the fourth, the Tribe went on a 37-0 run. R.A. Long had the first basket of the second half, then wouldn't score again until just six minutes remained. The Indians outscored the Lumberjacks 27-2 in the third, and 19-8 in the fourth.
Smith and Updike again led the Tribe in scoring with 19 and 16. Smith hit five threes and Updike two. Kody Senn added two more for 10 threes altogether.
The split games left Scappoose at 3-2 on the season, heading into the Gladstone Tournament Friday and Saturday last weekend.
The Indians are currently ranked 10th in the Oregon School Activities Association rankings.
