St. Helens wrestlers nip Sherwood in NWOC dual match

Lions wins the last four weights for 38-36 win

St. Helens and Sherwood each won seven matches on Wednesday night, but in the end the Lions would prevail with a two-point win.

'Sherwood was a fun dual,' St. Helens coach Mike McCoy said. 'We lost some close matches, but we worked hard and showed a lot of heart. As a team we are still trying to maintain intensity every match. Our consistency is not where is needs to be. We want guys to compete well every match.'

The Lions started off Wednesday with a win by Cole Snider at 106, but Sherwood would win the next three matches, two by forfeit, and lead 18-6.

St. Helens bounced back with pins by Andrew Duggan and Jon Luttrell to knot the team score. Four Sherwood wins in a row would boost them to 36 total, but two of those were 3-point decisions.

The Lions got what they needed in the last four matches: Dustin Ford posted a pin at 182 pounds; Jonah Asher had a 16-1 technical fall; Gabe Farmer won a 12-8 decision; and Brady Johnson picked up a forfeit at heavyweight.

The Lions will compete in the Northwest Duals at Westview after Christmas.
