'2012 Sky Watch Preview' - 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, Mt. Hood Community College Planetarium, 26000 S.E. Stark St. Learn about special astronomical events of the coming year including projected solar activity, the transit of Venus, the 2012 opposition of Mars, several planet conjunctions, current space missions, eclipses and the hype of the movie '2012.' Planetarium Director Pat Hanrahan will use the college's star projector to show highlights of the current night sky. Presentations last 45 minutes, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions. The Grotto's Christmas Festival of Lights - 5 to 9:30 p.m. daily until Friday, Dec. 30, The Grotto, Northeast 85th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard, Portland. Several choirs from East County school districts are scheduled to perform at The Grotto's annual Christmas Festival of Lights. The event also features more than 500,000 lights, a petting zoo, carolers, puppet shows and hot chocolate.
