Memorial bench honoring fallen sailor unveiled Monday morning

A memorial bench honoring the life of Ryley Gallinger-Long, the Forest Grove High School graduate who was killed in action in Afghanistan in August, will be unveiled Monday, Dec. 26 in Cornelius.

Ryley's bench will be dedicated at 8 a.m. at Arboretum Park, located on the corner of East Baseline Street and South 12th Avenue.

In attendance will be Ryley's wife, mother and brothers. Community members are welcome to attend as well, said Ryley's older brother, Zack Gallinger-Long. Cornelius city councilors Harley Crowder and Dave Schamp plan to attend as well.

Gallinger-Long, a medic with the U.S. Navy, died Aug. 11 while conducting a dismounted patrol in the Marjah district, Helmand province.
