Superintendent will not return in 2012

Scappoose School District Superintendent John Miner said he will not return to head the district when his one-year contract expires next year.

Miner took the helm this summer on an interim basis when former Superintendent Paul Peterson quit in June. Before coming to Scappoose he was retired after three decades as an educator and administrator. Now he will give retirement another shot.

When he was hired, Miner said there was an understanding with the school board that his tenure may be brief. He said he reviewed the idea of staying on for a few months, but decided eventually to resume his retirement.

The school district is beginning the process to hire a new leader. The district plans to select and interview candidates in March and make their choice in April. A candidate screening committee will be selected at a scheduled Feb. 13 meeting.
