Forest Grove officer injured during welfare check on man

Officer Gary Anderson suffered non-life-threatening injuries after scuffle with a combative man with history of mental illness

A Forest Grove police officer was injured on Christmas afternoon trying to detain a 47-year-old man with a history of psychiatric troubles.

Forest Grove police said Officer Gary Anderson was not seriously injured during a struggle to detain the man in the 2200 block of Laurel Street. Anderson is a 25-year veteran of law enforcement. His condition was not released.

Police from Forest Grove and Cornelius and firefighters responded to the man's address at about 5 p.m. Dec. 25. The man was not injured but was taken to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center for evaluation.
