Christmas spirit kicks in right on schedule, before big day
A slow start to the giving didn't spell disaster for this year's firefighter toy drive in Forest Grove.
Even though bins were looking a little empty earlier in December, by last week firefighters were ready to haul a serious bounty of Nerf, Lego and Barbie brands out to the neediest kids in western Washington County.
On Wednesday, firefighters and volunteers bundled together care packages in the fire station conference room that functions like a makeshift workshop for Santa each year.
Help from a veritable who's who of local institutions (which can be read in full on Forest Grove Fire and Rescue's Facebook page) pitched in this year, putting thousands of dollars worth of gifts in the hands of hundreds of children.
