On Thursday, at about 11 p.m., deputies from the Crook County Sheriff's Office and Crook County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash on Southeast Davis Loop near Southeast Cowboy Court, approximately 11 miles southeast of Prineville.
Upon arrival, deputies located a White 2001 Chevy Tahoe off the north side of the road in a stand of trees and shrubs. The driver, David Gordon Jr., age 23 of Prineville, was treated at the scene and transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation revealed that Gordon had been traveling east on Southeast Davis Loop while texting on his cell phone. As he was texting, Gordon's vehicle crossed the center line into the oncoming lane of traffic. The vehicle then continued across the oncoming lane of traffic until it left the north side of the road, crashing through a barbed fence and into the stand of trees and shrubbery.
At the hospital Gordon was issued a citation in lieu of custody on the criminal charges of DUII and Reckless Driving. He was additionally cited for Using a Cell Phone while driving. It was determined Gordon was the only occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Gordon was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and the airbags did deploy.
