tha Ellen Chichester, 94 of Prineville, passed away on June 6, 2012. There was a visitation on Monday, June 11, at the Whispering Pines Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at 10 a.m., at the Whispering Pines Chapel.
Martha was born on Aug. 18, 1917, in Princeton, Ore., to William and Hazel (White) Grant. She graduated from Condon High School. Martha then married Bill Hicks and started a family.
She cooked in many restaurants in Prineville and northeast Oregon. Beginning in 1950, Martha sold insurance and real estate for four years. She then became a housewife and an Avon saleswoman for 40 years, until she retired.
Martha met and married the love of her life, Ray Chichester, in 1953. They lived a rich and happy life together until his passing in 1991. She loved her family and enjoyed taking care of them. Martha had an avid sense of humor.
She was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge #1814, a past president of the Eagles Lodge #2555, and a past president of Rotana.
Martha is survived by her two sons, Darrel (Joanne) Hicks of Prineville, and Sidney (Lucinda Metlock) Chichester of Prineville; daughter, Ramona Derrick of Prineville; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Chichester, her parents, three brothers, a sister, and a grandson.
