Esther Tucker

Esther Tucker, 77, passed away Nov. 28, 2012 in Prineville.
   A visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Dec. 6, 2012 at Whispering Pines Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 7 2012 at the Assembly of God Church. Pastor Larry McGarry will officiate.
   Esther was born April 26, 1935 in Sacramento, Calif. to William Wirt and Ethel LaVina (Hubert) Hill. She attended Jackson Union High School in Jackson, Calif. and graduated in 1953. In 1953 Esther married Don Tucker in Sacramento, Calif. then moved to Medford, Ore. and settled in Prineville in 1962. She continued her education at Central Oregon Community College in Bend where she studied accounting.
   Esther worked at Ochoco Lumber in Prineville for over 20 years as a bookkeeper. She performed bookkeeping duties for various businesses and helped people with their personal accounts for 50 or more years. She also volunteered at the Senior Center preparing tax returns.
   While her children were in school she served on the Crook County School Board, was a Den mother for Cub Scouts, and was active in 4-H. She played the piano and organ for a variety of churches for more than 60 years and also taught Sunday school classes.
   After her divorce and retirement she gave loving care to her daughter, LaDonna. Following the death of her daughter, she traveled throughout the lower 48 states. Esther loved to camp, explore historical sites, and visit national parks. She did genealogy research and tracked her patriots to qualify for membership in DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution.) In 2006 she moved to Arizona where she was active in a Red Hat Group and loved to participate in trail travels through the desert in jeeps, returning to Oregon in 2011. Her family and friends were very important to her.
   She is survived by her children, Wes (Meg) Tucker, Madras; Gary (Teri) Tucker, Madras; Cheryl Carter, The Dalles, Ore.; grandchildren, Tayva Tucker, Denissa Rouse, Ross Carter, Logan Carter, and Kari Tucker; three step-grandchildren, Isaac Bese, Sarah Mahler, and Tarah Bese; great- grandchildren, Tanner Ebersole, Tyson Ebersole, Emma Tucker, David Rouse, Delanee Rouse, Preston Mahler and Ryan Bese.
   Esther was proceeded in death by her parents, daughter LaDonna Tucker and grandson PFC Thomas Tucker.
