He was born in Portland, Ore. on Nov. 19, 1942, the first born of two sons born to Albert Raymond and Mary Estberg Bryant Cason. John grew up on the family ranch at Rock Creek, outside of Heppner. He attended school at Lonerock and Heppner, graduating from Heppner High School in 1961. He attended Oregon State University in Corvallis graduating in 1967 with a degree in civil engineering.
After graduation he went to work for the United States Forest Service throughout the Northwest. In his off time he would return home to work on the family ranch. John retired from the Prineville USFS in December of 1992. Not long after his retirement he went to work for the Ochoco Mint Growers doing various part time jobs.
In 1993 he was introduced to Constance (Connie) Ellen Hollie whom he married on June 14, 1993, at Elko, Nev. Though John had no children of his own, family members will tell you that he was an instrumental figure in their lives. He was there to help friends and family without giving it a second thought. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours sightseeing, hunting, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife Connie of Prineville, a step-son, three grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and ten nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Cason, and a brother, James Lucian Cason.
